Well, I'm an oldster changing careers at mid-century. I think I would recommend “going for it” to others, but I would also urge anyone on the younger side of their lives to stay in school – one has more energy and fewer responsibilities (sometimes, of course).

These past few years have been challenging, losing one parent – my role model and best friend – and caregiving to the remaining parent. As well, I discovered I have a chronic illness for which there is no cure, which causes constant pain, and which few people have ever heard about.

At the same time, I feel very blessed. I feel that the time I took off from life for the parent who passed away was incredibly precious – healing – resolving. And, though my illness is challenging now, after being diagnosed in 2007, I took a remote trip that nobody thought I could do, and I loved it (see my photo section).

I feel that I am at a crossroads, with many paths to choose from (about how to face life more than specifics), and I am glad of this.
